1/21/2001Tres Hermanos is a Mexican restaurant located about halfway between Redmond and Kirkland on 85th. It seems like a family-run place, and their prices are reasonable. We didn't see an item over $12 on the menu. However, the food is only average, and the margaritas below average. Let's start with the Margaritas. The old standby blended margarita tasted the same as if I had gone down to the store, bought some Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix, blended it with some ice, and forgot to add the tequila. Talk about mild! The "Bartender's Margarita" was a bit more colorful, but only in the sense that both traditional and strawberry margarita mixes were used. Definitely a disappointment. The food itself was okay, but nothing special. The best was the Pollo con Crema (chicken
in a cream sauce), served with fresh flour tortillas. The Pollo con Crema was very heavy on
the onions, which we didn't like so much. But the tortillas were outstanding - hot, thick,
and tasty. Enchiladas, Tacos, and "Pastor" Tacos (soft corn tortillas) were all fine, but
lacked any kick or zest. The standard rice and beans were also average. If you live or
work near Tres Hermanos, it's probably worth a visit, But be sure to pre-funk and skip
the margaritas.
