Ray's Boathouse is a Seattle institution, and has been here for decades. It always gets mentioned in top ten lists for its great seafood and wonderful view. I think people are either brainwashed or their taste buds are dead. I was not impressed by Ray's in the least. Maybe it was great sometime, but they're just riding on reputation now.

People go on and on about the view. We went for dinner. Guess what? You can't see the water when it's dark. You only see the reflection of the 70's decor in the windows. People also rave about the seafood. Guess what? I can cook better seafood at home by myself. The Dungeness and King crab were good, but come on... how hard is it to screw up crab? Everything else was mediocre at best. Bland seafood, with not much originality. To make matters worse, we ordered a steak well done, it came out rare. So we sent it back to be cooked some more, and it came back exactly the same. At least the manager had the courtesy sense to apologize and take it off the bill. The desserts were a bit of a saving grace, but not enough to save the overall meal.

And boy, is this place pricy! $36 for crab, $34 for a steak, etc. Save your money and your appetite for a restaurant more deserving of your patronage.

Bottom Line: Not worth the money. Don't believe the hype.
